Painting of Conwy

Painting of Seascape

I take my influences from my environment of North Wales; especially from the coastline of the Menai Straits and Anglesey.  I constantly search for ‘treasures’ amongst the flotsam and jetsam, many of which inspire oil, acrylic or mixed media paintings back in the Studio.  I am as excited by the decay of made-made objects, such as shards of washed up pottery, rusting metal, or the flaking paintwork on old fishing boats, as I am by the beauty found in natural objects.

Landscape artists such as Goldsworthy have been an influence on the way I perceive the environment and Georgia O’Keefe has influenced the way I home in on small objects as a subject in their own right.

I exhibit regularly with Grŵp Menai and past exhibition venues include Penrhyn Castle, Theatr Clwyd, Theatr Gwynedd and Oriel Ynys Mon.  I take part in the new Helfa Gelf Open Studios event which includes artists and craftspeople in Conwy and Denbighshire and enjoy talking to people about my work.

My paintings evoke feeling of lost social history.  Peeling back the layers of flaking paint or rust reveals imagined stories of past generations, crossing the same paths and handling the same objects.
